Fruit of the Spirit Summer - Week 9 - LOVE

Bible Vereses/Story

Matthew 22:37-39 - Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'

1 John 3:16 (New International Version)
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.

1 John 4:19-21 (New International Reader's Version)
We love because he loved us first. 20 Anyone who says he loves God but in fact hates his brother or sister is a liar. He doesn't love his brother or sister, whom he has seen. So he can't love God, whom he has not seen. Here is the command God has given us. Anyone who loves God must also love his brothers and sisters.

Make TP Roll Noodle Neighbor Puppets -Children will have fun creating these neighbors.  Color/paint toliet paper rolls. Then you just hand out sheetsof different noses, eyes, and mouths. The children pick from the assortment to create their own characters.  When they are finished they can use them as puppets by placing their three middle fingers inside the tube.  Their thumb and pinky are the puppets hands.  While the children are creatingtheir puppets you can talk to them about how God created us all, that the Bibletells us to love our neighbor as ourselves. and we should treat others how wewant to be treated. Talk about who our neighbors are and that we shouldn'tjudge people by how they look, etc. Here are the faces  -

Love Is - Spinner Game  - take a paper plate and divide it up into 12 sections – in each one, write out a description of love from I Corinthians 13.  Make a arrow for the middle to create a spinner – use a brad to connect it to the plate and put a heart on the brad.  Children take turns spinning the heart in the center of the game, determine which wordthe heart is pointing to, and then give an example of how we can show love inthat particular way. For example, if the spinner lands on "Love is kind", he may say, "We can show kindness by giving to people in need."
