October 15, 2009 - What a day!

As many of you know, we are in the process of adopting from China. Thursday October 15th, we received a referral of a little girl. Our social worker called us around 10am and we had until 5pm that day to accept the referral. We managed to talk to one local pediatrician on the phone and meet with the PA at our doctor's office in that short time period. We gave our preliminary "yes" but knew we had 2 weeks to do more research and make our final decision.

We spent many days praying and discerning God's will for both our family and this little girl. She has some physical disabilities and we were unsure if those disabilities would imply some mental disabilities also. We did some research but mostly we prayed a lot! This time of decision was probably the hardest Faith walk we have ever had to endure! Nate and I both felt called to a child with special needs; God very clearly placed this little girl in our life; now it was our time to take a leap of faith. Through those prayers and struggles, it became increasing clear that this little girl is meant to be our daughter!

There are still some medical unknowns but we are confident in our decision to accept this referral. We feel God has placed her in our lives specifically and that she is ours. We are naming her Lily Elizabeth after Kristin's Grandma and Mother.

We are very thankful for all the prayers family and friends have offered up for us as we pursued adoption. We ask that you continue those prayers and now asking for healing for Lily and speedy paperwork so we can bring her home!

We are not allowed to post pictures or any identifying information until China approves the match so stay tuned!

What have we done since June? Here is a recap....

Well, obviously I have not been good about updating the blog. Here is a recap of our lives the past 5 months.....

We got a PUPPY! Her name is Gracie and now she is quite a bit bigger then this. Having a dog is quite the experience! Luckily, she is growing up into a smart and mostly good dog.

Went to the beach a few to to hang with Mary Lou one of those times...Andrew loves being buried!

Nate's sister-in-law Brandy was up in Illinois for a few weeks and we got to see each other for a couple days. The kids got along well and it was nice to see them in the summer so they could play outside. Here are the older kiddos at the Morton Arboretum - they look pretty chummy to me!

What is that on Jonah's nose you say? Well, that happens to be white out. He thought it was lotion. It was a pain to get off. What did I think he was doing when he managed to do this to himself? I thought he was napping.....guess not! Mary Lou and I were laughing so hard we had tears!

Adventures at the cottage on Selkirk lake - some of the boys looking at their turtle. Fun times!

Exploring the Grand Rapids Public Museum with Grandma Meldrim - here they are looking at money!

Andrew started KINDERGARTEN!

Jonah is just starting to really play with Andrew. They love to dress up and pretend to be just about anyone. Jonah makes a good cowboy!

Hanging out at the park with friends!
